Heaven Hill Announces Newly Renovated and Renamed Deep Eddy Vodka Bar at the KFC Yum! Center

The rebranding of the Deep Eddy Vodka Bar represents Heaven Hill’s long-term commitment to its partnership with the arena.

As a continuation of its long-standing relationship with the Louisville Arena Sports and Entertainment Properties (LASEP) and ASM Global Louisville, Heaven Hill Brands announces the rebranding of the Deep Eddy Vodka Bar at the KFC Yum! Center located on the Club Level of the facility. The space previously housed Burnett’s V Lounge, in place since the Yum! Center’s opening in 2010.

The Deep Eddy Vodka Bar, named after Deep Eddy Vodka, the company’s top-selling vodka brand, will showcase a comfortable and fun aesthetic utilizing the brand’s signature deep blue color accented by natural wood, brass fixtures and branded artwork sustainably constructed out of caps from bottles of Deep Eddy Vodka. The project began at the end of 2021, with construction kicking off in July 2022 and wrapping up in October 2022. Project Managers at Heaven Hill worked with Jennifer Dumesnil and Ann Swope with Swope Design Group on the design of the bar as well as Brandon Colvin and Steve McCarty with Miranda Construction on the buildout of the space. With a design inspired by the Deep Eddy Vodka Tasting Room in Dripping Springs, Texas, the bar represents the spirit of the brand and its core promise to bring people together for carefree good times.

Artwork featured in the Deep Eddy Vodka Bar was done by Jeffrey Adam Meszaros, aka “The Bottle Cap Guy,” who is based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  While working as a bartender, he noticed the mass amounts of colorful and uniquely designed bottle caps being thrown out every day and thought “A landfill is not a good place for so many little pixels of art to be spending the next five hundred years breaking down.”  Meszaros began collecting these caps and, in 2009, created his first mosaic.  More examples of his work can be found at @jambottlecapart on social media.

“We are so excited for visitors to see this beautifully refreshed space,” said Hannah Venhoff, Vice President, Deep Eddy Vodka. “The KFC Yum! Center is Louisville’s premier location for sports and entertainment, and we’re excited to showcase Heaven Hill’s flagship vodka and the brand’s deep Austin, Texas roots to all of its patrons.” The bar will offer a full range of traditional cocktails featuring Deep Eddy Original Vodka as well as newly developed drinks featuring Deep Eddy Lime, Lemon and Ruby Red.

Heaven Hill Distillery Announces Fall 2022 Edition of the Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Series

Heaven Hill Distillery announced today the release of the Fall 2022 edition of Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey at 19 years old, the oldest to date in this specific line. Comprised of barrels produced in September 2003, and bottled in October of 2022, the tenth national release ushers in the latest edition to the hallmark series which adds to the bottled-in-bond legacy.

Bottled in an ornate decanter, the fall edition denotes a black label, consistent across all fall releases. As was the case for the past editions, this edition’s tax strip, which has always been a signature of transparency on bottled-in-bond products, will disclose when the liquid was produced and bottled. The Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond fall edition will be available in the 750ml size on an allocated basis. It meets the strict requirements of a bottled-in-bond: the product of a single distillery from a single distilling season, aged a minimum of four years, and bottled at 100 proof or 50% alcohol by volume. This edition is available at the suggested retail price of $240.

The Fall 2022 edition of Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the first 19-year-old of the nationally released series and features Bourbon pulled from across three floors of rickhouse F and one floor of rickhouse X at Heaven Hill Distillery’s main campus. As a leader of the Bottled-in-Bond category, Heaven Hill is proud to offer a premium product within this special class that showcases the authenticity and quality of the American Whiskey portfolio. Acquired in 1999 by Heaven Hill, the legendary Old Fitzgerald line is well-known for its distilling pedigree and intriguing story behind its namesake, John E. Fitzgerald, whose legacy is also heralded by the Larceny Bourbon brand.

Heaven Hill Distillery Launches first Rye Whiskey of the Square 6 Series

Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey is the second Evan Williams Bourbon Experience craft product of its series and a new Rye mashbill from Heaven Hill Distillery

Heaven Hill Distillery today announced the launch of Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey, the latest innovative product to come from the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience. This is the second Square 6 product produced exclusively at the artisanal distillery located at 528 W Main Street in Louisville, just steps from the site of Williams’ original distillery founded in 1783.

The Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey mashbill consists of 63% Rye, 24% Corn, and 13% Malted Barley, a new recipe under the Heaven Hill portfolio. Artisanal Distiller Jodie Filiatreau distills one barrel of American Whiskey per day at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience and is continually crafting innovative mashbills and tweaking the hand-crafted process for each new recipe. This exclusive Rye Whiskey differentiates itself from Heaven Hill’s traditional Rye Whiskey mashbill of 51% Rye, 35% Corn and 14% Malted Barley, which is why it is designated as a High-Rye Rye Whiskey. This is Heaven Hill’s first product to bear such a high Rye content and is bottled at 95 proof. With notes of black tea, sweet honey, fig and molasses on the nose, along with all spice, pepper, vanilla and cardamom on the palate, this Square 6 release truly stands out when tasted alongside the first Square 6 High-Rye Bourbon released in May 2021.

The limited release of Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey will be available in small quantities as a unique offering at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience and available at select Kentucky retailers for a suggested retail price of $89.99. Advancing its series, the Square 6 Rye Whiskey is a product of Heaven Hill’s thirst for innovation and upholds its mission to cultivate the rich tradition and heritage of Kentucky’s native spirit.

“Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey is a totally unique product, not only because of its high rye content, but also because of how it is hand-crafted on a copper pot still,” said Jodie Filiatreau, Artisanal Distiller at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience. “We are excited for whiskey lovers to add this latest Square 6 release to their collections and for them to enjoy a new Heaven Hill mashbill.”

The continuation of the Evan Williams Square 6 series distilled in the one barrel per day, hand crafted, copper pot still facility is a testament to Heaven Hill’s commitment to quality, craft, innovation, and tradition. Square 6 pays homage to the original plot of land that housed Kentucky’s first commercial distillery, on part of which the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience sits. Since the building of the craft distillery, Heaven Hill has been patiently waiting as the barrels quietly age to maturation. During this aging process, a team of master tasters samples each recipe at various stages until that specific mashbill has been deemed to have achieved a taste profile worthy of bottling. The initial release of the series in May 2021 also featured a new mashbill for Heaven Hill, a High Rye Bourbon consisting of 52% corn, 35% rye and 13% malted barley.

ABOUT THE EVAN WILLIAMS BOURBON EXPERIENCE: The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience® (www.EvanWilliamsBourbonExperience.com) celebrates the legacy of Evan Williams, Kentucky’s first commercial distiller, through an immersive visitor’s center experience which brings to life the history and tradition of Kentucky’s native spirit. An official stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail®, the facility offers guests a historical glimpse back in time to see Evan Williams’ original distillery through high definition video recreations of the Louisville wharf and Main Street in the late 18th Century, plus recreations of Whiskey Row building facades along Main Street from the 1890’s through the present. Meanwhile, visitors learn the essential differences between distilling during Evan Williams’ era and Heaven Hill’s modern Bernheim Distillery operations.

This year, Elijah Craig has pledged to donate $100,000 to the Southern Smoke Foundation, a national nonprofit organization that’s dedicated to providing emergency support and relief to those in the hospitality industry. Additionally, Elijah Craig’s parent company, Heaven Hill Brands, has committed an added $15,000 to Southern Smoke that will directly assist Hurricane Ian relief efforts.

Elijah Craig first launched Old Fashioned Week in 2020 as a means to uplift the hospitality community during a time of need. Now in its third year, Elijah Craig is proud to continue hosting Old Fashioned Week, donating a lifetime total of $315,000 to nonprofits which directly impact individuals in the food and beverage community.

“Old Fashioned Week was created in 2020 with two goals: support the hospitality industry at a critical moment of need and create ways for our community to remain connected at a time when we simply couldn’t meet for a drink,” said Max Stefka, Group Product Director at Heaven Hill. “Now, approaching year three, the goals haven’t changed but the sum of the parts has. Old Fashioned Week has truly become a nationwide movement with over three-thousand participating bars from every pocket of the country and every facet of the industry. We are grateful to everyone who has supported it and every patron who has raised an Old Fashioned to a great cause.”

Rallying conscientious cocktailers across the United States, participants are invited to join the celebration, toast their favorite Elijah Craig Old Fashioned, and enjoy signature programming that highlights the quality and expert craftsmanship of the award-winning bourbon.

Celebrating Elijah Craig Old Fashioned Week

This October 14-23, 2022, participants are invited to join in the celebration and toast to Elijah Craig Old Fashioned Week. As a commitment to partnering with the Southern Smoke Foundation, Elijah Craig pledges to:

Thousands of nationally acclaimed establishments have committed to participating in this year’s event, including Broken Shaker in Chicago and Miami, Cure in New Orleans, Death & Co. in Denver, Julep in Houston, Leyenda in New York City, R&D in Philadelphia, Silver Lyan in Washington, DC, and many more.

Old Fashioned Week and Southern Smoke Foundation

Long-time fans of Southern Smoke and Founding Director and Chef Chris Shepherd, the Elijah Craig team is thrilled to name the organization as its 2022 Old Fashioned Week beneficiary. Realizing a natural alignment in the brands’ collective missions of supporting the hospitality industry, the partnership transpired organically.

“I can’t think of a better partnership than Southern Smoke and Old Fashioned Week,” said Chris Shepherd, founding director of Southern Smoke Foundation. “Anyone who knows me knows how much I love bourbon, so it’s fitting that a week celebrating one of my favorite cocktails is also benefiting my favorite foundation. We are so grateful to our friends at Elijah Craig for selecting Southern Smoke as Old Fashioned Week’s beneficiary. It’s a reminder that Southern Smoke’s Emergency Relief fund is available to anyone in the industry—including distillers, bartenders, and beverage professionals—nationwide in crisis. So enjoy Old Fashioned Week and know your cocktail is helping take care of the food and beverage industry.”

Elijah Craig Bourbon and The Old Fashioned

A match made in heaven, Elijah Craig Small Batch Kentucky Bourbon strikes the perfect note of rich flavor and full body that expertly balances the spirit-forward Old Fashioned. Its signature warm spice and subtle smoke flavor complement the sweetness and spiciness of the cocktail’s accompanying ingredients.

“I’m inspired by the breadth and depth of bartenders participating in this year’s Old Fashioned Week,” shared Lynn House, National Heaven Hill Portfolio Mixologist and Old Fashioned Week Host. “From beloved neighborhood dives to the most renowned bars across the globe, these bars are serving Old Fashioned cocktails that honor the history and legacy of the classic alongside innovative riffs that push the bounds of the category.”

Credited as being the first distiller to age his wares in charred oak barrels, the Reverend Elijah Craig is considered the Father of Bourbon and in c.1789 transformed the clear, unaged corn liquor into the bold amber liquid with a distinctively smooth flavor that is known and loved today. Produced by Heaven Hill Distillery, the nation’s largest independent, family-owned distillery and the world’s second-largest holder of Kentucky Bourbon, the Elijah Craig lineup features a variety of award-winning products to appeal to all connoisseurs.

And with a cocktail program helmed by acclaimed bartender and National Heaven Hill Portfolio Mixologist Lynn House, there’s a tipple for everyone. For House as well as many bartenders, whiskey connoisseurs, and cocktail fans, the Old Fashioned is merely a jumping off point: a blank canvas that invites experimentation and challenges perceptions of what the cocktail is—and what it could be. Old Fashioned Week participants are invited to try their hand with one of Elijah Craig’s suggested recipes or by getting creative with their own concoctions.

A Bourbon Capital Homecoming: Heaven Hill Springs Distillery underway in Bardstown; name honors distillery lost in 1996 fire

Family-owned spirits company expanding production with $135 million state of the art distillery

The Bourbon industry marked a special homecoming today as Heaven Hill broke ground on a $135 million distillery in Bardstown – with a name paying tribute to the family-owned company’s original distillery that burned in a devastating fire in 1996.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear joined Heaven Hill President Max Shapira and Master Distiller Conor O’Driscoll to commemorate the start of construction and reveal the new distillery’s name: Heaven Hill Springs Distillery.

“We’re honored to celebrate this homecoming with a return to distilling in Bardstown to augment our overall bourbon-making capacity, as well as continue to make an impact in the Bardstown community,” Shapira said. “I’m proud to salute our history and the many Bardstown men and women who helped build our brands over the years by naming our new facility in honor of the original Old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery that my father and uncles founded in this community nine decades ago.”

The new, state-of-the-art Heaven Hill Springs Distillery is being built in the heart of the “Bourbon Capital of the World” at 1015 Old Bloomfield Pike, off KY 245, and is expected to be operational by the end of 2024. Initial production is slated for 150,000 barrels a year, and over time will have capacity to ramp up to producing 450,000 barrels annually. This will be in addition to the company’s distilling that occurs at the historic Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, which will continue to operate at full capacity of 450,000 barrels annually.

As part of Heaven Hill’s 2030 Environmental Sustainability Strategy, the new distillery has been designed to create a more environmentally conscious distilled spirits industry and ensure a thriving environment for generations to come. Heaven Hill Springs Distillery has been engineered to minimize water use to below industry benchmarks and reuse certain water streams. The site will use native plants and natural systems to manage stormwater runoff and improve habitat on the property. The distillery will include a wastewater pretreatment system to ensure discharged water exceeds environmental standards and greatly reduces the load on the city’s treatment plant. Heaven Hill also will plan to utilize energy creation and recovery, lessening the distillery’s demand on the city’s electrical grid.

The new distillery adds at minimum 38 jobs to the company’s 381 people already working in Bardstown at Heaven Hill’s Loretto Road bottling, aging and tourism facilities.

“This is a significant day for Heaven Hill and Kentucky. The return of distilling operations to Nelson County is a return to the company’s roots, and the investment highlights the continued growth of bourbon and spirits in the commonwealth,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “I am incredibly happy for the residents of Bardstown and the surrounding area, and I want to thank the leaders at Heaven Hill for this commitment to create new job opportunities and build the company’s presence in our state.”

Heaven Hill and Bardstown: ‘a shared and storied history’

Max Shapira’s father and four uncles, along with a group of Bardstown-area investors, founded “Old Heaven Hill Springs” distillery in 1935, and filled its first barrel on December 13 of that year.

The company grew over the years and added several acclaimed brands, including Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, Larceny, Henry McKenna and more, which have earned numerous spirits-industry accolades. Master distillers of the Old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery over the years included Joe Beam, Harry Beam, Earl Beam, Parker Beam and Craig Beam.

In 1996, a fire resulted in the loss of the distillery, seven rickhouses and almost 100,000 barrels of whiskey. After the fire, Heaven Hill moved distilling to the historic Bernheim Distillery in Louisville. However the bottling and aging of whiskey along with other functions proudly continued in the Bardstown area where they remain today. In addition, in 2004, the company dedicated the Heaven Hill Bourbon Heritage Center—most recently expanded and renamed to the Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience—that has become an award-winning focal point for the region’s bourbon tourism and has greeted millions of visitors over the years.
