Black Velvet Whisky Introduces Black Velvet Apple

Black Velvet Whisky, the second-largest selling Canadian whisky in the world, today launched Black Velvet Apple. With its perfect blend of original Black Velvet Canadian Whisky and natural apple flavors, the new flavor is ripe for success amongst a growing category.

A natural fit for the Black Velvet flavors lineup, apple continues to see heightened success across brown spirits as the leading flavor. Black Velvet Apple delivers a smooth, balanced taste with a burst of tart, green apple followed by a bright, crisp finish. Apple joins Black Velvet Toasted Caramel to further expand the current flavor offerings in the franchise.

“Black Velvet Apple is an approachable flavor that marries the quality of Black Velvet Whisky with the hottest flavor in brown spirits today for an extraordinary taste,” said Hannah Venhoff, Group Product Director, Heaven Hill Brands. “With renewed attention and investment in Black Velvet, we are invigorating the brand with thoughtful innovation that honors the Black Velvet legacy and brings new consumers to this iconic brand.”

Heaven Hill Brands acquired the Black Velvet Distilling Company in November 2019, quickly moving forward on infrastructure developments to build upon the success and experience of the Black Velvet team in Lethbridge, Canada. Building on the success of Toasted Caramel, flavor innovation with Black Velvet Apple introduces the next phase of investment in the historic brand, welcoming in new consumers and providing choice to current fans. Black Velvet Apple will be supported at retail with point of sale and displays, as well as across trade media.

Heaven Hill Distillery Announces Release of Limited-Edition Heaven Hill 85th Anniversary Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Commemorative bottles comprised from a single 13-year-old barrel

Heaven Hill Distillery announced today the release of Heaven Hill 85th Anniversary 13-Year-Old Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This single barrel limited-edition release celebrates the distillery’s 85 years of distilling tradition.

“Perseverance is a hallmark of Heaven Hill’s history, and a value resonating across the industry this year,” said President Max L. Shapira. “Our steadfast commitment to quality and an enduring legacy continues to guide Heaven Hill’s path forward. We look forward to lifting America’s spirit for the next 85 years, as we have since 1935.”

The Heaven Hill 85th Anniversary edition is comprised of one barrel filled on Dec. 13, 2006 and dumped on Dec. 13, 2019, honoring the anniversary date Heaven Hill first filled a barrel with Kentucky Bourbon in 1935. The 13-year-old Kentucky Bourbon, another key callback to the anniversary date, was aged on the second floor of Rickhouse G on Heaven Hill’s main Bardstown campus. The anniversary bottle is cut to 107 proof, Heaven Hill’s original barrel entry proof circa 1935, and non-chill filtered.

This ultra-premium Bourbon will be released in an elegant, tall 750ml bottle placed in a custom wooden box bearing two H’s on each side signifying the Heaven Hill name. The bottle is secured in the box with magnetic closure and sits in a blue satin-lined base. The distiller’s notes label features hand-written bottle numbers, distiller tasting notes, and DSP-KY-1, denoting the Heaven Hill Bernheim Distillery. The one-time release of Heaven Hill 85th Anniversary 13-Year-Old Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey will be available late 2020 in at the Bourbon Heritage center and select Kentucky retailers for a suggested retail price of $299.99.

Heaven Hill Distillery Announces Release of 2020 Parker’s Heritage Collection Limited Edition Bottling

14th edition of the annual ultra-premium release is a 10 Year Old Heavy Char Bourbon, continues the distillery’s commitment to support ALS research and patient care

Heaven Hill Distillery announced today the 2020 limited edition release of Parker’s Heritage Collection 10 Year Old Heavy Char Bourbon. The 14th edition will ship nationally beginning in September at an SRP of $120.00.

Parker’s Heritage Collection is a hallmark lineup of Heaven Hill Distillery’s exploration in premium innovation. The 14th edition continues the interaction of barrel char across varying mashbills, this time with Heaven Hill’s traditional Bourbon mashbill of 78% corn, 12% malted barley and 10% rye. Aged in heavy char (Level 5) barrels, as opposed to the customary Level 3 for Heaven Hill, the resulting flavors carry intensified notes of the traditional Bourbon. Consisting of 102 barrels aged on the sixth floor of rickhouse Y for 10 years, the heavy char brings forth a caramel and maple sweetness, as well as slight smokiness developed after 40 Kentucky seasons in the barrel.

The second heavy char edition of the series advances the study of how a more intense char allows the liquid to penetrate deeper into each barrel stave and the effects on the resulting flavor. Bottled at 120 proof (60% abv) and non-chill filtered to preserve all the flavor compounds, this Bourbon showcases the broad range of Heaven Hill Distillery’s 1.8 million barrels of aging inventory.

“The Parker’s Heritage Collection is a testament to the attention to detail crafted throughout Heaven Hill’s distilling legacy,” said Susan Wahl, Vice Present, American Whiskies at Heaven Hill. “It is an honor to continue Parker’s interest in innovation through this series and showcase the variety of Heaven Hill Distillery’s portfolio. It is in tribute to Parker and his legacy that we continue to support ALS research and patient care with this series.”

The late Heaven Hill Master Distiller Parker Beam, for whom the acclaimed series is named, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (also called ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease) in 2010. The past seven editions from 2013-2019, including the “Promise of Hope” Bourbon, the “Original Batch” Straight Wheat Whiskey, the Kentucky Straight Malt Whiskey, the 24-Year-Old Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon, the 11-Year-Old Single Barrel, Orange Curaçao-finished Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey,  and Heavy Char Rye Whiskey, respectively, have raised more than one million dollars toward ALS research and patient care through contributions made by Heaven Hill for each bottle purchased. With the 2020 Heavy Char Bourbon edition, Heaven Hill will again contribute a portion of the proceeds from each bottle sold to the ALS Association.

Packaged in the same upscale 750ml bottle as the previous thirteen editions, but with a navy blue label, the newest Parker’s Heritage Collection is available in a three-bottle case and will be available at retail starting in October. With previous releases having won multiple awards from Whisky Advocate magazine, Whisky Magazine and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the series stands as some of the most critically lauded American Whiskeys in recent memory. Past bottlings have won awards ranging from “Best North American Whiskey” to “American Whiskey of the Year” to “Best of Show, Brown Spirits.”

Heaven Hill Distillery Announces Fall 2020 Edition of the Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Series

Heaven Hill Distillery announced today the release of the fall 2020 edition of Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey at 14-years-old. Comprised of barrels produced in fall of 2005, and bottled in fall of 2020, the sixth national release ushers in the latest hallmark series to the bottled-in-bond legacy.

Bottled in an ornate decanter, the fall edition denotes a black label, consistent across all fall releases. As was the case for the past editions, this edition’s tax strip, which has always been a signature of transparency on bottled-in-bond products, will disclose when the liquid was produced and bottled. The Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond fall edition will be available in the 750ml size on an allocated basis. It meets the strict requirements of a bottled-in-bond: the product of a single distillery from a single distilling season, aged a minimum of four years, and bottled at 100 proof or 50% alcohol by volume. The edition is available at a suggested retail price of $140.

A previous 14-year-old edition was released as a visitors center and Kentucky allocated product, denoted with a red label. The fall 2020 edition of Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the first 14-year-old of the nationally released series and features Bourbon pulled from different rickhouses, at different floors, and on different production dates. As a leader of the Bottled-in-Bond category, Heaven Hill is proud to offer a premium, allocated product within this special class that showcases the authenticity and quality of the American Whiskey portfolio. Acquired in 1999 by Heaven Hill, the legendary Old Fitzgerald line is well-known for its distilling pedigree and intriguing story behind its namesake, John E. Fitzgerald.

Elijah Craig Launches Toasted Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

New expression finished in custom toasted new oak barrels continues Elijah Craig’s spirit of innovation

Elijah Craig, a leading premium Kentucky Bourbon, today announced the launch of Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. The latest line extension from the award-winning Elijah Craig family, Toasted Barrel adds an extra layer of sweet oak complexity to the traditional Bourbon.

The process begins with fully matured Small Batch, which is dumped and then re-entered at barrel proof into a second, custom toasted new oak barrel designed in partnership with Independent Stave Company. Made with 18-month air dried oak, the finishing barrel is first toasted and then flash-charred using a moderate toast temperature and toast time. An extensive research and development process resulted in a final barrel toast profile bringing forward dark sugar flavors within the wood to create a balance of smokiness and sweetness after months of finishing. The resulting taste is big, rich and complex with spice and pepper notes that fade into milk chocolate with a hint of smoke as the finish lingers with chocolate and baking spices. Only charred new American oak barrels are used throughout the process to maintain the standards of identity class and type designation for Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

“Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel pays homage to our namesake’s pioneering spirit as the first to char oak barrels through thoughtful innovation in the barrel-aging process,” said Max Stefka, Elijah Craig Senior Brand Manager. “It was a pleasure partnering with Independent Stave Company to create a custom toast profile and char level designed to best complement fully matured Elijah Craig. Twice barreled for nuanced flavor, Toasted Barrel showcases a Straight Bourbon process unique in the marketplace.”

In 1789, Elijah Craig was the first to char oak Barrels to make Bourbon, earning his place in history as the “Father of Bourbon.” Toasted Barrel celebrates this pioneering spirit by pushing the Bourbon barrel-aging process a step further. Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel is bottled at 94 proof, consistent with Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon and Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey, and joins the rest of the award-winning lineup of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Elijah Craig Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

Packaged in the iconic Elijah Craig bottle, Toasted Barrel is distinguished by new bottle decoration, face, side and neck labels with smoky blue features. With an SRP of $49.99, Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel will launch nationally on an allocated basis this September.

About Elijah Craig Bourbon

Elijah Craig Bourbon bears the name of the Reverend Elijah Craig, known as “The Father of Bourbon,” who established his distillery in 1789 on the banks of Elkhorn Creek in modern day Georgetown, Kentucky. He is credited with being the first distiller to age his wares in charred oak barrels. The clear, unaged corn liquor became transformed into a bold amber liquid with a distinctively smooth flavor that makes Bourbon what it is today. Produced by Heaven Hill Distillery, the family of whiskeys includes Elijah Craig Small Batch, Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey, Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, and Elijah Craig Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

First brought to market in 1986, Heaven Hill Distillery’s Master Distillers were selecting a small number of barrels of the finest Bourbon to make Elijah Craig Small Batch long before the term “small batch” even existed. It is this attention to detail and superb craftsmanship that give Elijah Craig an ideal balance of age, robust body and rich flavor. Elijah Craig accolades have included Whisky Advocate’s Whisky of the Year, Best Small Batch Bourbon and Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and Excellent Highly Recommended honors at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge. Heaven Hill Distillery Announces Larceny Barrel Proof Series Nationwide

Barrel Proof offering becomes first line extension for Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Heaven Hill Distillery today announced the first line extension of Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Larceny Barrel Proof. Released on an allocated basis three times per year, the first release of this wheated Bourbon will ship with great consumer anticipation in January 2020 after already receiving a Double Gold from the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

First launched in 2012, Larceny is one of the most successful new-to-the-world Bourbons in the past decade, enjoying both critical and consumer acclaim. Leveraging the success of the mainline brand, Larceny Barrel Proof offers whiskey fans an opportunity to taste Larceny as Heaven Hill’s Master Distiller does, straight out of the barrel. Each release will be bottled at barrel proof, non-chill filtered and available at a suggested retail price of $49.99.

Larceny Barrel Proof will be an ongoing offering released three times per year: January, May and September. Each release will have varying proofs and consist of barrels aged six to eight years. A naming convention for the release is shown on each bottle. The alpha character in the naming convention designates which batch of the year that bottle came from, the numeral that follows represents the month of the release, and finally the last two digits indicate the corresponding year of the release. For example, the first release will be A120, with “A” representing the first batch of that year, “1” representing January, and “20” representing the year 2020.

The new release will be offered in the traditional distinctive Larceny pinched-waist, flask-shaped 750ml bottle, with the hallmark skeleton key logo and John E. Fitzgerald signature carried by a black label. The lower face label denotes “Barrel Proof” in red and includes the batch number, proof, and alc/vol for each particular release.

“Larceny’s wheated Bourbon mashbill delivers a taste profile that is very approachable and smooth, a true crowd-pleaser. The addition of this non chill filtered, barrel proof offering to the Larceny family allows us to showcase a deeper character, richness and depth of flavor from our wheated Bourbon mashbill,” said Heaven Hill Distillery Group Product Director Susan Wahl. “Drawing from its lineage within the Old Fitzgerald family, Larceny Barrel Proof is an opportunity for Bourbon fans to taste a historical ‘wheater’ in its purest form.”

Larceny is the heir to the wheated Bourbons that make up the historic Old Fitzgerald franchise acquired by Heaven Hill Distillery in 1999. Continuing the tradition of Old Fitzgerald using wheat in place of rye as the secondary grain in the mashbill, Larceny uses more wheat than any of its competitors for a softer, rounder character. The brand is inspired by the history of John E. Fitzgerald, who as a treasury agent in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s was one of the only people legally allowed to carry the keys to the barrel storage rickhouses. With a discerning palate for fine Bourbon, John E. Fitzgerald often used his rickhouse keys to gain access to some of the finest Bourbon barrels for himself. Those barrels from which he chose to help himself were often referred to as “Fitzgerald barrels” around the distillery.

Heaven Hill Distillery Launches Historic, Bottled-in-Bond Namesake Bourbon

Heaven Hill Distillery, one of the nation’s foremost American Whiskey producers now celebrating 84 years and three generations of family ownership, today announces the launch of Heaven Hill 7-Year-Old Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This historic offering of the company’s namesake Bourbon exemplifies the craftsmanship, patience and perseverance that are hallmarks of Heaven Hill’s whiskey-making tradition.

The origins of Heaven Hill’s eponymous Bottled-in-Bond brand dates to 1939, when upon release, it quickly became the number-one-selling Bourbon Whiskey in the state of Kentucky. The lineage of Heaven Hill Bourbon has been a constant throughout the company’s history, from the original 1939 4-Year-Old Bottled-in-Bond to the 2018 release of Heaven Hill 27-Year-Old. Today, that heritage is once again celebrated with the release of Heaven Hill 7-Year-Old Bottled-in-Bond. Made from Heaven Hill Distillery’s traditional Bourbon mashbill, mingled in small batches, and bottled at 100 proof, this 7-year-old offering of the namesake brand exceeds the minimum four-year aging requirement for a Bottled-in-Bond. The Distilled Spirits Plant (D.S.P) number of the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, Ky., D.S.P.-KY-1, and that of the Heaven Hill headquarters and bottling house in Bardstown, Ky., D.S.P-KY-31, are featured prominently on the face label.

“Heaven Hill Distillery was built on patience and perseverance, two values we continue to pour into our products today,” said Heaven Hill Distillery President Max L. Shapira. “At a time when American Whiskey is surging, we are proud to release a namesake product that really brings us back to our company’s founding.  It celebrates our rich bourbon-making heritage, as well as the values and standards we hold today as a point of passion for our company.”

The front label prominently features “Bottled-in-Bond” across the top, an embossed “Heaven Hill” in the middle along with an illustration of Old Heaven Hill Springs distillery, the distillery first used in 1935, and the phrase “This Bourbon is 7 Years Old” adorns the bottom calling out the age statement. A gold foil, embossed Heaven Hill Distillery medallion is featured on the bottom label, the same emblem that marked the Heaven Hill 27-Year-Old Bottled-in-Bond packaging. To complete the packaging, the back label includes the historic tagline “The Best of the Great Kentucky Bourbons,” along with the history of the namesake brand.

With an SRP of $39.99, it will first launch in October in the limited markets of California, Texas, New York, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, South Carolina, and Colorado.

Why Bottled in Bond?
The Bottled-in-Bond designation was an important turning point in the history of Bourbon. The exacting standards set forth in the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 offered consumers a guarantee of quality and transparency. It stipulated that the whiskey must be the product of one distilling season from one distillery, aged in a federally bonded warehouse for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof. Today, this designation continues to offer those same guarantees, providing consumers with the knowledge of where the Bourbon was produced and the assurance that the barrels were all pulled from a single season. Keeping a Bottled-in-Bond product on the shelves with a consistent flavor profile requires the foresight of consistent aging inventory, as only barrels distilled between January and June or July and December can be bottled together in a single batch.

For Heaven Hill specifically, Bottled-in-Bonds are ingrained in our Bourbon portfolio. Not only was one of the founding brands a Bottled-in-Bond, but Heaven Hill has had the fortune of acquiring many Bottled-In-Bond labels over the years and has been instrumental in keeping the history of this important act and these labels alive. In fact, Heaven Hill Distillery produces the most Bottled-in-Bond whiskeys of any distillery today and prides itself on having a vast enough inventory to ensure that each of these bottlings meet the exacting standards of a Bottled-In-Bond.

Evan Williams Bourbon Launches Evan Williams Apple

Evan Williams Bourbon today launched Evan Williams Apple, the newest addition to the fast-growing Evan Williams Flavors portfolio. The world’s second largest-selling Bourbon marries with the crisp taste of green apples for a delicious taste experience.

A natural fit for the Evan Williams Flavors lineup, apple has seen heightened success across the brown spirits category as the flavor surpasses honey in popularity according to IWSR. The addition of Evan Williams Apple rounds out the flavor offerings within the Evan Williams flavors franchise, providing retailers an opportunity to build on the franchise success, as evidenced by Evan Williams Honey, which grew at seven percent over the last 12 months.

Mirroring the rest of the Flavors line, Evan Williams Apple is bottled at 70 proof. Evan Williams Apple is “picked fresh” and “poured smooth” as a simple mixer in cocktails or refreshing on its own over ice. On the nose, Evan Williams Apple is crisp, green apple forward with Bourbon behind. The taste is juicy, sweet apple with hints of caramel and light spice, with a long, smooth finish of a green apple and Bourbon blend.

“Evan Williams Apple is an approachable flavor that stays true to the quality of Evan Williams Bourbon and personality of the brand,” said Julie Cole, Evan Williams Brand Manager. “We look forward to bringing in new consumers to the Evan Williams franchise, as well as giving our current consumers more choice.”

Evan Williams Apple will be supported by the “Picked Fresh. Poured Smooth” tagline, as well as a dedicated media program and point-of-sale products throughout summer 2019. Available in 750ml and 50ml sizes, Evan Williams Apple SRP is priced in line with the flavors family at $14.99.
