Kentucky Distillers’ Association Offers $1,000 Engineering Scholarship to University of Kentucky

The Kentucky Distillers’ Association is now offering a $1,000 endowed scholarship to University of Kentucky freshmen studying mechanical or chemical engineering.

Applications for the KDA John Rhea Engineering Excellence Scholarship are due April 1. To qualify, applicants must be an incoming UK freshman, Kentucky resident eligible for in-state tuition, with a minimum 3.0 unweighted high school GPA. They must also be associated with a KDA member distillery and plan to enroll in mechanical or chemical engineering at the university. Scholarships are not renewable.

John Rhea was a retired Chief Operating Officer of Four Roses Distillery, honored with the KDA’s Lifetime Honorary Member Award. The longest-serving director of the KDA Board of Directors, John served for over 17 years.

A 1976 graduate of the University of Kentucky, John started work at Four Roses as a maintenance supervisor, rising to executive leadership over 40 years. Find more details on John and the endowed scholarship here.
