Say Hello to Jakub Wierzba, Area Director – APAC
How long have you been part of the Heaven Hill family?
I joined Heaven Hill on the 1st of November, so I’m definitely a new kid on the block. I do, however, have a longer relationship with Heaven Hill through the products, as I have been sipping Elijah Craig for a number of years.
What’s inspiring you in life right now?
Having just gotten through a very difficult year for everyone, I have been amazed and inspired by how people have been coping with all the new challenges like loss, loneliness and drastic disruption to professional and personal life.
Tell us about an organization or cause you are passionate about.
There are quite a few causes I feel passionate about, but, at the moment, mental health is the main one. We all go through mental issues sometimes, and it is something we keep ignoring in ourselves and in each other. I strongly believe we are obliged, on an individual level, to do more for the people around us (and for ourselves) and give a helping hand when we see the need for it. With a kind word, we might just brighten somebody’s day or save a life.
Which Heaven Hill corporate value do you relate to most and why?
Among all the important values, Integrity is the one I rate highest. It has such a huge impact on both our business and personal lives. There may always be a cheaper price, a new product from the competition or some other disruption, but the market and the customers recognize integrity and will repay it with trust and long-term support, not to mention that high levels of Integrity allow us to sleep better at night.
What’s your favorite Heaven Hill memory?
Given my short tenure at Heaven Hill, I do not have many of those. But my first team introduction call was quite a special moment. It felt really good to e-meet and feel welcomed by everyone. Another highlight was my first introduction to Bourbon with Bernie and tasting some new tipples (Larceny has become my favorite for now).
What’s one thing people may not know about you?
I’m a scuba diver (at least I was, pre-COVID), and the best experiences I had were while wreck diving and shark watching. One of the most amazing experiences I had was holding onto some rocks at 30 meters deep at 5 a.m., while thresher sharks passed me by almost an arm length, watching my buddies and me. Totally surreal experience. . .
What’s your favorite time of day?
Late morning, when I feel totally awake and focused on whatever I’m doing, be it a business plan or a Saturday home brunch.
What are three things you can’t live without?
Does water, air and food count for an answer? Jokes aside, I can’t live without books, excitement (or adventure, whatever it may be) and an occasional good dinner with close friends.
What would you like to be remembered for?
Having had a positive impact on a few people’s lives, for having helped them grow and develop themselves.
