A Message from the Shapira Family

A Message from the Shapira Family

Dear Heaven Hill Team,

During the last week, our country has endured one of the most difficult times in its long and storied history.  The sad and senseless miscarriages of justice in Minneapolis, Louisville, and virtually every community across the country have exposed difficult truths and struck a chord for all of us in pursuit of a fair and just society for all. While we are an international company, the values of the American Constitution call on our country to be dedicated to “…a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, and… promote the general welfare…” of all its citizens for “ourselves and posterity.” This global ideal, unfortunately, has not been achieved, not for the lack of trying but for the lack of trying hard enough collectively. We must do better.

For many years, Heaven Hill has sought to improve the communities in which we work and live. We have pursued these activities in many ways with partners of diverse social standing. In West Louisville, we have worked with groups committed to improving social imbalances. Our partnership with Simmons College, a historically black college in Louisville, annually underwrites scholarships. The United Way of Lethbridge’s commitment to elevating those in poverty is critical to their community. Finally, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown we supported construction of an expanded cancer center. In a community where so many Heaven Hill employees live, this project touches the lives of Heaven Hill team members and their loved ones.

We know there is more we must do to foster and improve the company’s performance in the areas of diversity and inclusion. Moving forward, we will accelerate our work to enhance the company’s efforts.  Likewise, we will be engaging in conversations with employees to understand their broader perspectives.

As an employer, we desire to be a place where our core values are practiced every day. This has never been more important or urgent than today.  We want to foster an environment attractive to the most talented, innovative and determined individuals. And we will pursue and embrace those values with a renewed commitment while remaining absolutely intolerant of racism or discrimination.  We will not shy away from this challenge and will work to be leaders that strive to elevate and inspire ourselves and our communities.

Heaven Hill has never tolerated any form of hate or discrimination. And while the difficult truths of social injustice have not altered that viewpoint, they have certainly opened our eyes to improvements that can be made internally to ensure our Heaven Hill family is a place for everyone, whether you work here, partner with us, or enjoy our products.

We stand with you all now and will continue working side-by-side to build a company that thrives for generations to come.

Respectfully,

Max L. Shapira
