Thriving Together Thursday: Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond

First released in 1939, Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond has been part of our story from the start. It was our first Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon, and it set the tone for everything that followed. Aged seven years, bottled at 100 proof, and made according to the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, it embodies our commitment to craft, transparency, and thriving together for generations to come.

The story begins in Bardstown, Kentucky, in 1935. At a time when few would take a risk on spirits, the five Shapira brothers saw promise where others saw uncertainty. With nothing more than a handshake deal and about a $40,000 investment, they bought a distillery and planted the roots of what would become the world’s largest family-owned and led spirits company.

Just four years later, Heaven Hill released the Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon. The decision to wait until the Whiskey could mature fully in the rickhouse paid off. It quickly became the top-selling Bourbon in Kentucky and earned its place as a benchmark for quality, authenticity, and craftsmanship.

And that legacy continues. Today’s Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond remains true to its traditional mashbill, 78% corn, 12% malted barley, and 10% rye, and is aged for a full seven years, far exceeding the four-year minimum required by law. The result? A golden amber spirit with warm notes of vanilla, honey, and caramel, a smooth yet subtly spiced taste, and a long, lingering finish.

Behind every bottle of Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond is a lineage of hands-on expertise, legacy-rich processes, and people who carry our story forward with pride. This spirit begins with our signature Heaven Hill registered mashbill—a time-honored recipe that reflects the heritage of our family-crafted distillery in Bardstown.

From there, the journey unfolds in our rickhouses, where barrels are diligently selected with exceptional care. Our team doesn’t just meet the Bottled-in-Bond standards—we surpass them. While the federal requirement calls for four years of aging, we patiently mature Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond for seven, allowing time and oak to deliver deeper complexity and character. The result is a 100-proof bourbon that stands as “The Best of the Great Kentucky Bourbons”—an accessible, everyday pour equally at home in a craft cocktail or served neat.

This Bourbon is marked by the care of those who craft it: Master Distiller Conor O’Driscoll overseeing each step of the distillation and National Brand Ambassador Emeritus Bernie Lubbers, whose championing of the Bottled-in-Bond legacy brought its story to shelves and stages nationwide. From production to packaging, theirs is a commitment to quality that runs deeper than any label—it’s a promise made barrel by barrel and honored in every glass.

Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond isn’t just part of our portfolio. It’s part of our identity. It’s the embodiment of Thriving Together—bringing people, history, and purpose into perfect alignment. So, this Thursday, let’s raise a glass to 90 years of craft, character, and collective spirit. Because when we thrive together, we don’t just make great Whiskey, we make history.
