Black Velvet Distillery wins Business Leadership Award from Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce
We’re excited to wrap up our celebration of Black Velvet with some very exciting news – last Thursday, Black Velvet Distillery was awarded the Business Leadership Award during the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce 2020 Business of the Year Awards. The Business Leadership Award, sponsored by Select People Solutions, another local Lethbridge company, is awarded to a business or businessperson who deserves special recognition for their impact on enhancing the community through exceptional leadership in business. Finalists for the 2020 award included Black Velvet Distilling Company, Breathe Easy Heating & Air Conditioning, and TMH Business Coaching & Consulting.
Upon announcing Black Velvet as the winner, a Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce representative read the following explaining why the company was chosen for this award:
“Since Heaven Hill acquired Black Velvet Distillery in November 2019, they have displayed an outstanding commitment to their employees and to Lethbridge as a community. Black Velvet has been a long time leader in our community for waste reduction and recycling. When the global COVID-19 pandemic hit and there was a global shortage of PPE, Black Velvet applied very early to Health Canada to become licensed to produce and distribute hand sanitizer. In the early stages, the team bottled this product by hand so they could get it out to anybody in need. The product was immediately distributed to The City of Lethbridge for first responders and quickly branched out from there to supply many other city divisions. They also donated hand sanitizer to every other non-profit organization in Alberta that requested it, and we are one of those organizations that benefitted from Black Velvet’s hand sanitizer program. On behalf of the chamber, and on behalf of Lethbridge congratulations Black Velvet Distillery.”
