Cultural Celebration: Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

Cultural Celebration: Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

At Heaven Hill, we are committed to celebrating diversity as it pertains to the whole person including ethnicity, faith, age, experience and so much more. Our Spirited Commitment core behavior, Be Authentic, really highlights this value. A crucial part of the Spirited Commitment is recognizing and valuing the diversity of thought, experience, and perspectives that each person brings to the table because doing so makes us stronger as a whole.

As a family-owned and led company, we have deep roots in bringing our whole selves to work each day. On Monday, we were not in the office because it was Yom Kippur, an important Jewish holiday and rich family tradition amongst the Shapira-Latts clan.

Yom Kippur means Day of Atonement. It follows Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, by nine days. Yom Kippur marks a chance to reflect on the past year through the act of fasting. It ends with a break of the fast and a joyful celebration filled with optimism for the year ahead. Some of our family’s traditions for the weekend include eating apples and honey surrounded by family and friends while we host at our home.

We know that the fabric of Heaven Hill is made up of so many cultures, holidays, religions and identities. It is such a beautiful thing! For example, many of you have shared with us ways that you are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15-Oct. 15.

We want to remind you today to be bold and Be Authentic! Ask a coworker what cultural celebrations they’ve recently participated in and tell them about one you’re looking forward to.
