Environment Weekly: Low-Waste New Year’s Resolutions

Environment Weekly: Low-Waste New Year’s Resolutions

January is the perfect time of year to reflect on the previous year and set goals for yourself for the new year. It’s a time to think about how we can improve our lives and start working towards that. Personally, this time of year always makes me feel inspired and refreshed. This month, our focus is waste, so we thought it would be a great opportunity to talk about low-waste new year’s resolutions.

Did you know that the average American generations an average of 4.9 pounds of garbage a day? This more trash per person than any other country in the world, so we have a great opportunity for us to help make a positive impact. By reducing our waste, we can help protect our oceans, wildlife, and environment, and reduce emissions. Heaven Hill is doing our part by reducing waste from our visitor centers, operations facilities, and packaging.

This January, we’d like to suggest making a resolution to reduce your personal waste as well. This will save you money, improve the quality of your belongings and help the planet in so many ways. We’ll spend the next few weeks covering the most common resolutions around waste, including reducing single-use plastic, reducing food waste and reducing large-item waste and how to actually integrate these changes into your life in a way that is sustainable long-term.

Committing to reduce your waste is more than just a resolution – it is a way to live your values, make tangible change in the world and shift your mindset away from our culture of convenience toward a culture of caring. Waste related or not, do you have any sustainable new year’s resolutions for 2025? Send them to us at [email protected].
