Heaven Hill Partners with Louisville Grows

Heaven Hill Partners with Louisville Grows

In early December, over 60 Heaven Hill team members partnered with Louisville Grows to plant trees in the Algonquin/Hallmark neighborhoods. This tree planting event allowed participants time for cross-functional team building while restoring the urban tree canopy where it is most needed.

Louisville Grows, founded in 2009, is an environmental 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to Grow Greener, Healthier Neighborhoods. The organization’s vision is to foster green, just and sustainable neighborhoods in Louisville. Louisville Grows’ neighborhood-based urban forestry program focuses on restoring the urban tree canopy with a goal of planting 1,000 trees each year.

At the event, Heaven Hill team members learned how to properly plant trees from Louisville Grows’ Trained Citizen Foresters, interacted with neighbors who will care for the newly planted trees and together, planted 44 trees!

One neighbor’s new Red Bud Tree happened to be planted on the anniversary of her late-mother’s birthday. She shared with team members that she named the tree “Ona” after her mother and was excited to have a living reminder of her mother in her yard for years to come.

This year, Heaven Hill is funding the planting of 200 trees, including those that were planted last week. In September, we planted 40 trees near Black Velvet Distillery in the Lethbridge’s Palliser Park. Sustainability is one of our eight FY23 Corporate Priorities. As a key part of our 10-year sustainability strategy, we aim to fund the planting of a total of 5,000 trees in our local communities.
