Meet Our Summer 2020 Interns

Meet Our Summer 2020 Interns

This summer Heaven Hill welcomed eight interns working across various departments. Unfortunately, due to coronavirus, the 2020 summer internship program looked slightly different than past years as some of the interns were unable to work in the office and worked remotely. Despite this small set back, each intern was still able to work closely with Heaven Hill employees and complete meaningful projects that contributed to their knowledge and experience in their respective fields. Please join us in welcoming Austin Faris, Maddi Echsner, Danielle Doering, Anne Friedman, Jameson Hinkebein, Rylie Raisor, Emily Alexander, and Phoebe Lapinski to Heaven Hill.

Austin Faris – Compliance Intern

Austin Faris is completing his last semester at Midway University. Austin began interning with the compliance department in late April and will continue working with Heaven Hill throughout the fall. . In his free time Austin loves to play videogames, lift weights and compete. He played three years of college baseball and has now moved onto improving his golf game. He is self-motivated and is always searching for a way to improve. He believes there is always more to learn and observe in anything you do. He values that Heaven Hill strives for this same principle of continuous improvement. His favorite memory from this summer was when he first met the compliance team in person, which he was originally unable to do because of the pandemic.

Maddi Echsner – GraphicDesign Intern

Maddie Echsner, a senior at the University of Kentucky, began interning with the Heaven Hill Creative Services Department (CSD) in early May and will continue working with Heaven Hill throughout the fall. She is extremely passionate about DanceBlue, a student run organization on the University of Kentucky campus. DanceBlue is a 24-hour dance marathon that supports the hematology and oncology clinic at the Chandler B. Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. She is inspired by those around her and the children with cancer that DanceBlue supports inspires her to be strong, remain hopeful, and find positivity in every situation. While working with CSD, she valued the tips and tricks they shared with her that she will be able to implement in her own work going forward.

Danielle Doering – Environmental & Sustainability Intern

Danielle Doering recently graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Natural Resources and Environmental science. This summer she has been working as an Environmental & Sustainability Intern for Heaven Hill. She is inspired by the outdoors and feels rejuvenated from both weekend camping trips and neighborhood walks. She loves hiking and visiting as many Kentucky Nature Preserves, local, and state parks as she can. Recently having graduated college, she knows things around her are changing and strives to view these changes as ways to keep improving, as Heaven Hill does. She worked remotely this summer but was able to stay involved through virtual meetings with her manager, Rachel Nally, several times a week.

Anne Friedman – Distillery Quality Control Intern

Anne Friedman is a Distillery Quality Control Intern who has been working with Heaven Hill for almost four months. In her free time, Anne loves cooking and baking and is always experimenting and trying new recipes. She believes that everything happens for a reason and has learned to turn her weaknesses into strengths by focusing on moments as learning opportunities. Her favorite memory this summer was when she participated in a safety audit. She ended up serving as  a tour guide during the audit since she knew the Bernheim facility so well.

Jameson Hinkebein – Quality Control Intern

Jameson Hinkebein is a Senior at WKU and has been working at Heaven Hill as a Quality Control Intern this summer. He is a tournament fisherman and is president of the bass fishing team at WKU. He is currently working on mastering brewing beer, which is something he enjoys doing with his father. He strongly values teamwork – something that has always been important in his life, from sports to the different jobs he has had. He has learned that sometimes it takes many people working together to reach a desired outcome and that you cannot always do everything alone. His favorite Heaven Hill memory from the summer was getting to visit and tour the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, Bourbon Heritage Center, and the Bernheim Distillery.

Rylie Raisor – Supply Chain Intern

Rylie Raisor has been working with Heaven Hill as a Supply Chain intern for almost two months and will continue working with Heaven Hill throughout the fall. She has recently been inspired by reading books and continuously trying to learn new things. She says she relates to the Heaven Hill corporate value of being nimble because she believes it is important to be adaptable and make the most of every situation. She is passionate about the Ronald McDonald house and loves volunteering there because they provide assistance to families through dark times by giving them a place to live, food, and emotional support.

Emily Alexander – Marketing Intern

Emily Alexander is a sophomore at the University of Georgia. She has been working with Heaven Hill for about two months as a Marketing intern, and even in such a short time, she was able to understand and experience the amazing culture the company has built. She spends time volunteering for the West End School, where they help support kids from the community that come from unstable or troubled homes. In her free time, she runs her own cheese board business, loves running and has even completed a mini marathon. This summer she worked remotely, but her favorite memory was having the opportunity to present to Max Shapira, Kate Latts, and Allan Latts.

Phoebe Lapinski – Marketing Intern

Phoebe Lapinski is a sophmore at the University of Pennsylvania. She began working with the marketing department in early June. She loves to travel and experience and learn from new cultures, but hasn’t been able to do so recently due to the pandemic. She worked remotely this summer, but still worked closely with her department through weekly online meetings. She places a lot of value on a project she completed this summer with another intern, Emily Alexander. They created a presentation on coronavirus trends within the spirits industry and were able to present their findings to Max Shapira, Kate Latts, and Allan Latts. She felt it was a wonderful experience to be given such a relevant project and the opportunity to present in a professional setting despite her working remotely.
