New Spirited Neighbor Grant Program to Support Underserved Communities in West Louisville

New Spirited Neighbor Grant Program to Support Underserved Communities in West Louisville

We are thrilled to share the next phase of our Spirited Neighbor initiative that was announced in Louisville’s California Neighborhood in July 2023. We are launching the Spirited Neighbor Community Grant Program, supporting our commitment to the California Neighborhood and other West Louisville communities near our Bernheim Distillery.

What is the Spirited Neighbor Community Grant Program?

Heaven Hill will offer up to $250,000 in community grants over five years. $50,000 in grants will be awarded annually, ranging from $500 to $5,000 per project. These grants will be allocated to local non-profit organizations championing specific projects that benefit the California neighborhood and nearby communities.

Why are we launching grants?

The Spirited Neighbor Community Grant Program is part of our broader Spirited Neighbor Initiative, a five-year, $800,000 investment aimed at collaborating with non-profits, public organizations, and the community to make a real difference in communities who lack critical resources impacting their education, mental health, and economic development.

Co-President Kate Latts sums it up perfectly: “Having called Bernheim our distilling home for 25 years, we’re honored to support existing efforts and help drive growth and tangible change where it’s needed most.”

How can I make an impact?

Spread the word within your friend groups and on social media! If you know of a local nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization meeting the requirements, they are eligible to apply! Simply have them visit spiritedneighbor.com/community-grants to submit an application.

Join the grant review committee. Stay tuned for details on how you can sign up to review and score grant applications for the upcoming 2024-2025 grant period.

What else has Spirited Neighbor done?

In addition to the Spirited Neighbor Community Grants, we’ve been busy enhancing the infrastructure of California Neighborhood. From investments in the Louisville MSD sewer system to neighborhood beautification efforts, like planting trees and shrubs at Perry Elementary and Victory Park, we’re committed to enriching the quality of life for West Louisville residents.

Other Spirited Neighbor Highlights Include:

  • Sponsored and taught financial literacy courses to empower West Louisville youth
  • Provided exposure to the musical arts and literacy resources for Perry Elementary Students
  • Provided California Neighborhood families FREE Speed Art Museum admission and FREE access to the Speed Art Museum Summer Camp program
  • Sponsored weekly meals to California families in need through Change Today Change Tomorrow
  • Sponsored staple California Neighborhood-led community events so residents can fellowship in safe spaces
  • Provided ongoing support to West Louisville entrepreneurs and small businesses through the newly launched Louisville Central Community Center Entrepreneurship 4 All program
