Say Hello to Benji Purslow, European Brand Educator

How long have you been part of the Heaven Hill family?

Three Months

What’s inspiring you in life right now?

Being able to see friends and family again for the first time in months. After three months of not seeing anyone outside of my household, it’s been amazing to see and catch up properly with friends and family again, in particular my four nephews…my brothers not so much, haha.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

“Wisest is he who knows he does not know” – Socrates. Basically, if you think you know everything, you clearly don’t know enough. This quote has helped me remember that I am not a know-it-all and to ask questions as much as possible. I have it tattooed on my wrist.

Tell us about an organization or cause you are passionate about.

At the moment it’s the WE MAKE EVENTS movement in the UK. The arts have been left behind in the country and I have many friends and relatives that have lost everything they have worked all their life for. This organization has been put together from people in the industry to try and make our government aware of the people who put together the events that we dearly love, and the help they so badly need.

Which Heaven Hill corporate value do you relate to most and why?

Tricky to pick one. I think that being nimble is the most relevant at the moment, so I’ll go with that. Having to flex around this current situation as been the most important part of starting this job (along with continuous improvement), being able to adapt and change how I do my job, and trying to see what some of the advantages are, and what could stay after all this is over.

What’s your favorite Heaven Hill memory?

At the moment, hearing that I got the job itself. The application process really hit home to me just how much I wanted to work for this company. When I got the email with the job offer it was probably the highlight of my career. It was recognition for how far I had come in my life, and because of how in depth the interview process was, I felt confident in this being the right fit all round. I very much look forward to having some more memories, as soon as I get out of the house!!

What’s one ingredient you put in everything?

Frank’s Hot Sauce

Secret talent?

It’s not really a secret, as it gets broken out at pretty much any party I go to, but, rapping and playing the guitar.

A skill you’re working on mastering?

I’m currently attempting to record my album. They are songs that I have written over the last 20 years about my life and I’m trying to get them all down in my spare time. I am playing all the instruments (drums, bass, guitar, lead and sing) and I hope to get it completed by the time I’m 40 (1 year and 5 days to go). I have named the “band” It’s All About The Benjamins” and the album is called “This Life Will Be The Death Of Me”.

What’s your favorite pastime?

Golfing is without doubt my favorite thing to do at the weekends. I moved out of the city four years ago when I made the transition from working in bars and always closing, to actually having a weekend and being able to play. I am very competitive, and this is a great way for me to scratch that itch. It also stops me from drinking the night before, as I can not play with a hangover….well, not competently anyway.
