Say Hello to Jennifer Hughes, Marketing Procurement Specialist
How long have you been part of the Heaven Hill family?
I came on-board on April 6 of this year, so I just passed my 6-month anniversary. Time has flown, but you know what they say . . . it sure has gone quickly. The best description of my timing is that I have been here long enough to have my feet firmly underneath me, but I still learn something new every day.
What’s inspiring you in life right now?
All the fall things . . . I love the changing seasons. That includes winter, as well. I think there are beautiful things to be found in every season of the year and I decorate my home accordingly. My husband is very patient with this .
Tell us about an organization or cause you are passionate about.
Unfortunately, I am passionate about my cause for a personal reason. I lost my father to cancer in 2010, and he was a Kosair Shriner. He worked for many years to help this cause, so I took up the gauntlet upon his passing. My husband and I participate in many fundraisers throughout the year for Kosair Charities, and I am very proud to help in any way possible for this most worthy cause.
Which Heaven Hill corporate value do you relate to most and why?
This is a difficult question to answer, as I think that we all exhibit aspects of each value daily. If choosing one in particular that I hope people would use to describe me, it would be Integrity. In business, this is of the utmost importance, in my opinion.
What’s your favorite Heaven Hill memory?
In my short tenure here at HHB (all of which has been during COVID), it has been a little difficult to acquire lots of in-person memories. I am going to, instead, utilize one of my very first “big girl” career experiences that includes HHB! My father’s printing company worked very closely with Heaven Hill, and one of my very first large projects was working on the Hpnotiq launch! I worked with our sales rep to produce a lot of the POS that was associated with that launch and it was such a fun brand and project to start my professional career off with. Hpnotiq is now celebrating their 20th anniversary, so that gives away my age a bit.
What’s one thing people may not know about you?
I think a few people may know this already, but I am a huge music and concert lover. I have seen concerts all over the US, including a stint in the 90s where I spent the better part of a year following the Grateful Dead around the country (occasionally squeezing in Phish and Widespread Panic shows). Additionally, I have seen concerts that cover almost all genres of music, from Whitney Houston, to Garth Brooks, to Luciano Pavarotti, to Billy Joel and also the Rolling Stones!
What’s your favorite time of day?
I think this is a pretty old-fashioned term, but my Mother always called it the “Gloaming”. It’s just before the sun sets when the sun gives its golden shimmer to everything that it touches. There is a magic to those few minutes out of the day, for me, and you can often find me sitting on our back deck just to get those minutes in with quiet reflection.
What are three things you can’t live without?
MUSIC, as stated above. My husband, who I simply couldn’t do without and finally, my two sisters (Kelly and Barbara). All our family is dear to us, but my sisters and I have had to go through a lot together, and we have come out the other side so much closer than before.
What would you like to be remembered for?
I would like to be remembered as someone who is honest, tough, and reliable. Those three things together are high up on my scale of great personal qualities.
