Thriving Together Thursday: LEE Initiative

Together in the Kitchen: How We’re Supporting the LEE Initiative

When we think about the heart of our communities, it’s often found in kitchens and around the table – spaces where people gather, learn, and create lasting connections. At Heaven Hill, we’re proud to add a special touch to those experiences through the spirits we craft. But at the center of it all are the young people and future leaders who will carry our hospitality community forward – and they deserve the tools, mentorship, and opportunities to thrive.

That’s where The LEE Initiative comes in. Founded by Chef Edward Lee and Lindsey Ofcacek, this nonprofit was built on the belief that the hospitality industry can and should be more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable.

The LEE Initiative has been changing lives in and beyond the kitchen, and we’re proud to stand alongside them, showcasing that thriving together begins with supporting every member of our industry.

Over the years, The LEE Initiative has:

● Supported restaurant workers nationwide with emergency relief during the pandemic.

● Launched programs for women in leadership, opening doors in professional kitchens.

● Created Skill Kitchen, a culinary education and career pathways program offering food literacy, leadership training, and life skills to Louisville youth and young adults.

Wallace was able to share his passion by creating a custom Heaven Hill cocktail and sharing the impact LEE Initiative had on him and his daughter during COVID-19. A true example of community resilience.

The LEE Initiative is shaping the future of our industry by giving community members the education, confidence, and resources they need to succeed. We’re proud to stand alongside them, because thriving together begins with investing in the next generation.

Skill Kitchen – Cooking Up Opportunities for Young People

Through our ongoing partnership, we are proud to support Skill Kitchen (a Spirited Neighbor Grant-supported program), which provides youth with hands-on culinary training, mentorship, and leadership development. Students explore cooking, food systems, and sustainability while developing personal agency and community connection. By intentionally focusing on Louisville youth, Skill Kitchen reflects our belief that thriving together starts with showing up for those closest to home.

Here’s why this program matters:

● Real Impact: Students gain culinary and life skills that open doors for future careers.

● Community Connections: With partners like Louisville Youth Group and Poco Popups, young people are supported both inside and outside the kitchen.

● Shared Commitment: With a total program funding goal of $50,000, The LEE Initiative is working to expand Skill Kitchen to reach even more young people. Through the Spirited Neighbor Grant, Heaven Hill Brands proudly contributed $5,000 toward that goal – helping ensure more students have access to mentorship, hands-on training, and opportunities for growth.

● A Stronger Future for Hospitality: Supporting The LEE Initiative means investing in the people who will shape the Louisville community of tomorrow.

“Skill Kitchen is about so much more than cooking. It is about bringing people together, sharing knowledge, and building life skills that strengthen our community. We could not do this important work without the leadership and support of local partners like Heaven Hill Brands. Through initiatives such as the Spirited Neighbor Fund, they show what it means to invest in and uplift neighborhoods throughout our city.” – Jen Watkins, Program Director
