Two Sales Team Members Win Evan Williams 1783 Recipe Contest

Market Manager – Northern California Nick White and Area Sales Manager – Central Texas Josh Chaput submitted winning entries for the Evan Williams 1783 Small Batch Recipe Contest.

Hosted by the Evan Williams brand team, the contest called on members of the Heaven Hill sales force to submit their best cocktail recipes, using the product, cocktail stencil, bitters spray and other branded items they received in a recent mailer.

The contest served to build excitement about the recent relaunch of 1783 Small Batch, marked by a return to its original 90 proof, updated packaging and new glass, label and capsule.

Josh and Nick received $50 Visa gift cards for their winning cocktails. Below, they share their recipes and Q&A about the inspiration behind them.

Wills 1783 Sour

Submitted by Josh Chaput

1.5 oz. Evan Williams 1783 Small Batch Bourbon

1 oz. PAMA liqueur

0.75 oz. lemon juice

0.75 oz. simple syrup

1 egg white

4 sprays Bittermens Tiki Bitters

1 Bourbon cherry

Q: Why is this particular cocktail a great option to highlight Evan Williams 1783?

A: This is a great, summery Bourbon cocktail to enjoy in the heat. Our new 1783 has just the right amount of character in this cocktail for a Bourbon lover who has a bit of a sweet tooth.

Q: What attributes about the new Evan Williams 1783 stand out in this cocktail?

A: The honey notes compliment the lemon, and the 90 proof stands up well with the sweetness of the cocktail.

A: Froth. The other secret is to not allow the garnish to ruin the stencil like I did 😉

Q: On a scale of 1-4 with 4 being expert level and 1 being anyone could make it, how difficult is this cocktail to make?

A: Tiki bitters and eggs aren’t for every bar, but don’t knock it until you try it!

Q: Any other thoughts about this cocktail or Evan Williams 1783 you want to share?

A: Incorporating an additional brand in our portfolio that many wouldn’t normally think to add is always fun. In this case, PAMA was perfect.

5th and Main, a variation on the New York Sour

Submitted by Nick White

1 egg white

1.5 oz. Evan Williams 1783 Small Batch Bourbon

0.5 oz. Canton

1.5 oz. lemon

0.25 oz. wine float

Stencil with Angostura bitters.

For this cocktail I prefer to use a reverse dry shake- Vigorously Shake all the cocktail ingredients (aside from wine) with ice first; strain the ice out, and re-shake. Double strain contents into a coup glass making sure to leave room for your wine. Add wine with a funnel, making sure not to disturb your white foam. Do not over pour, making sure your stencil can rest on the top of the glass without touching foam, then spray Angostura bitters far enough away to create a mist. Take off the stencil and serve!

Q: Why is this particular cocktail a great option to highlight Evan Williams 1783?

A: To highlight the new 1783, I started thinking about the extra proof. When I started, I threw everything I could at it, and it really did a great job at standing up in a cocktail. So adding egg, lemon, canton then finally wine and having it stand up speaks volumes about the higher proof.

Q: What attributes about the new Evan Williams 1783 stand out in this cocktail?

A: I could talk about many things here, but the higher proof is what sticks with me.

Q: What is your secret to getting the perfect stencil logo?

A: Trial and error! When stenciling, you can’t not overfill the glass. The stencil must be very close but not touching the foam. When spraying the bitters, it should be from about 6 inches away.

Q: On a scale of 1-4 with 4 being expert level and 1 being anyone could make it, how difficult is this cocktail to make?

A: This cocktail is about a 3. Knowing how to shake an egg would help and also how to use a funnel to not ruin the look of the egg white foam on top.

Q: Any other thoughts about this cocktail or Evan Williams 1783 you want to share?

A: My favorite way to enjoy the new 1783 is neat!
